Six key technologies that will impact K-12 education

According to the 2014 NMC Horizons Report, there are six emerging technologies that will have a serious impact in how education is transformed in the next five years

IProduced by the New Media Consortium (NMC), a not-for-profit organization of post-secondary institutions, museums and companies, and EDUCAUSE Learning Initiative (ELI), a group serving higher education IT, the report’s findings are drawn from an international panel of education and tech experts.

The panelists identified six key trends in education technology “likely to have a large impact over the coming five years in education around the globe.”

The trends are as follows:

  • No. 1: Growing ubiquity of social media
  • No. 2: Integration of online, hybrid, and collaborative learning
  • No. 3: Data-driven learning and assessment
  • No. 4: Shift from students as consumers to students as creators
  • No. 5: Agile approaches to change
  • No. 6: Evolution of online learning
